Business property insurance (often packaged under a business pack policy) insures against damage or loss to your owned or rented building, contents & stock as a result of insured events. These insured events may include, but are not limited to, Fire, Storm, Accidental Damage, Water Damage, impact, Malicious Damage, and Lightning Strike.

The following extra coverage options can also usually be added on to a Business Property insurance package:

Flood

Adding Flood coverage insures against damage to buildings, contents & stock as a result of flood.

Theft & Money

Adding Theft or Money coverage insures against the theft of contents, stock & cash from the premises.

Glass

Adding Glass coverage insures against the breakage of internal or external glass (windows) at the premises.

Equipment or Machinery Breakdown insurance covers against the breakdown of specified equipment at the business premises.

Business interruption insurance assists in covering income lost by the business after suffering from an insured event such as a fire or storm.

Public & products liability insurance covers your business against losses occurring from personal injury to a third party, or property damage to a third parties property, as a result of your business activities.

General property insurance covers the loss of your portable items while taken outside of the business premises. May be useful to cover tools, laptops, equipment, phones, etc, that would be removed from the premises.

Goods in transit insurance, sometimes called marine freight or cargo insurance, covers the business against damage or loss to stock or goods whilst in transit. This type of insurance can cover transit whilst within Australia, as well as imports or exports.

Professional indemnity insurance covers the insured against any loss resulting from a breach of professional duty due to an error or omission. Professional indemnity insurance is important for any business that provides advice for fee activities, such as reporting, auditing, design activities, consulting, auditing, and professional services.

Management liability insurance covers the business for losses arising from management activities, with common sections as below:

Directors & Officers Insurance

Directors & officers coverage insures mismanagement of the company resulting in a legal action (lawsuit) against the company’s directors & officers.

Employment Practices Liability (E.P.L.)

Employment Practices Liability insurance covers directors & officers of the insured for an alleged Employment Practices breach. These can include wrongful/unfair dismissal, harassment, discrimination, bullying, whistle-blower, etc.

Statutory Liability (Fines & Penalties)

Statutory Liability insurance provides coverage for fines and penalties imposed on directors & officers when there has been an alleged statutory breach. Examples of these are workplace health & safety, employment practices laws, workers compensation laws, environmental protection authority, spam and privacy laws, industry specific rules & regulations, etc.

Corporate Liability (Company Reimbursement)

This section of the policy provides cover for the same claims scenarios as the Directors & Officers section, but is only triggered when the Company has had to indemnify (pay) a Director/Officer for a claim.

Crime Protection

The Crime Protection section of Management liability insurance covers a range of crime related occurrences when there has been a direct financial loss. This can include employee fraud or dishonesty, third party crime, electronic and computer crime, destruction and damage of money, crime by shareholders, etc.

Contract Works insurance insures against any material damage to a project of the business whilst still in the course of construction, including theft of materials off the site.

Commercial Motor insurance covers specified business vehicles, heavy plant, or machinery against loss.
